The drive up from Edenbridge follows the B2028 through Limpsfield before doubling back west into Old Oxted - a proper Kent-to-Surrey outing, and one plenty of North Downs Way walkers make on foot instead. Fifteen minutes either way, and the train via Hurst Green to Oxted works just as well as the car, with just a nine-minute walk at the other end.
The Crown began as a Tudor hall house in the 1500s and has welcomed locals and travellers on Old Oxted’s High Street for over 300 years. Today it’s an independent free house, owner-run by Alan Percival for over thirty years. Two characteristic bars with open fires, exposed beams and Victorian panelling, local cask ales from Surrey and Kent breweries, home-cooked food and a family beer garden with adventure playground and North Downs views.
